The Salvation Army is one of the world’s largest social services agencies, outside of government and those sponsored by the United Nations. It has grown to be so large because of its commitment to work with disadvantaged people and those discarded by society to improve their lives and to offer them hope of a better future.
The Salvation Army is a church, but wherever it is found it is also active as a social services and relief agency. It has accepted this role not only because of the social conscience the Army inherited from its origins in Victorian England, but also in obedience to Christ’s injunction to love one’s neighbour.
At Community Services (Calgary), we are dedicated to helping families and individuals who are victims of circumstance and, perhaps, their own actions. By being supportive and non-judgmental, we can be effective in providing not only for a person’s immediate needs, but in helping them find their way to a more secure and fulfilling life.
